Escanaba, Michigan03/01/2018– The Ishpeming Hematites Boys Basketball team traveled to Escanaba to take on the Eskimos in their last regular season game of the year. These two teams have not played each other since the late 1970’s! Ishpeming came into this game 13-6 on the season while the Escanaba Eskimos were 14-5. To start off the game, the Hart Holmgren won the tip-off for the Hematites. Darius Yohe scored the first two points of the game right away for Ishpeming. The Hematites kept their lead until just about three minutes before the buzzer when Ryan Robinette, Eskimo, tied the game 11-11. Gavin Sundberg received a foul and sent Ryan Robinette to the line where he made both of his free-throws to give Escanaba the lead. The game was neck-and-neck until Hart Holmgren made a three pointer to take back the lead and keep it with a score of 19-17 at the end of the first. Austin Willette tied the game in the beginning of the second quarter. The Eskimos even took an eight point lead half-way through the third. The Hematites could not keep up in the third and 40-35 was the score at the half.

The Hematites had possession to start off the second half of the game. The Eskimos kept the lead through out the whole third quarter. Although the Hematites were trailing, Hart Holmgren had a great achievement in his basketball career when he beat the all time scorer record of 1,105 for Ishpeming. That was definitely a proud moment for all of the Hematites and Hematite fans! 54-52 was the score at the end of the third as Hart Holmgren scored two free-throws post-quarter to bring the deficit to two. Like the last few games the Hematites won, the real action took place in the fourth as they barrelled down on the Eskimos. Hart Holmgren had an amazing game and, with his two free-throws, he took the lead for the Hematites in the fourth. Ryan Robinette was fouled out of the game after drawing an elbow and that was a major loss for the Eskimos but it was fortunate for Ishpeming. Darius Yohe, Hart Holmgren, and Gavin Sundberg held that lead for the Hematites and, to make this a 14-2 run for them, the Hematites defeated the Eskimos 66-60.

STATS:
The Eskimos leading scorer was Ryan Robinette with 20 points. The team had an average of 46.3% making their buckets with 17 turnovers, and 10/10 free-throws on the night.

The Hematites led the scoring for the game as Hart Holmgren made an impressive 30 points this game and he won the title “all-time scorer” for Ishpeming with his 1,117 points made over the course of the regular season. The Hematites were 42.6% with their shooting but had 12 turnovers, 16/20 free-throws, and 17 rebounds for this game. Darius Yohe followed behind Hart in the scoring as he made 23 points on the night.
