Ishpeming, MI – February 28th, 2018 – The Ishpeming Hematites Girls High School basketball team took on the Gwinn Modeltowners in a district game in Ishpeming this evening and took the victory with a final score of 69-34.
The Hematites faced off against the Modeltowners in their first district game this evening, the winner would be facing off against the Westwood Patriots who defeated the Negaunee Miners earlier in the evening in Ishpeming for an incredible unexpected upset of a 20-0 team. The Hematites have already met the Westwood Patriots twice losing one game and winning another.
The Hematites made quick work out of the Gwinn Modeltowners in this game:
1st: 23-4
The Hematites pulled a massive lead throughout the first frame, Gwinn was unable to block the Hematites and could not put up shots and had some turnovers.
2nd: 33-17
The Hematites pushed their lead up to 33, but the Modeltowners began to gain some momentum and Ishpeming began having some difficulty stopping the Modeltowners from increasing their tempo.
3rd: 51-27
The first half of the third was all Gwinn, they put up several unanswered baskets, but the Hematites quickly squashed their momentum and pushed their lead up significantly farther.
4th: 69-34
The final quarter saw the Modeltowners totally shut down. They simply could not get the ball and make shots, and what shots they did make did not find their mark. Gwinn scored only 1 point in the first 6 minutes of the frame. Ishpeming won the frame and the game with a final score of 69-34.
The Ishpeming Hematites Girls now face off against the Westwood Patriots in the next district match on Friday, March 2nd.
