Negaunee, MI – January 10th, 2018 – The Ishpeming Hematites Boys High School Basketball team took on the Negaunee Miners tonight taking victory with a final score of 59-54.

The Ishpeming Hematites boys took the court facing off against the Negaunee Miners this evening. The Hematites boys went in with 7 players, with Dondre Yohe out for a sprain ankle and was not in uniform.

The first frame began with Negaunee making the first goal. The Hematites fired back immediately and took an early lead 4-2. Hart Holmgren laid a big 3 pointer and accounted for 11 of the Hematites 13 points by the end of the first frame to finish out tied 13-13.

The second frame was a fierce back and forth between the Hematites and Miners shot for shot pushing up the score, however the Miners could not topple the Hematites and close the gap. Darius Yohe laid in some major 3-pointers to pad the score solidifying their lead into the half 35-26. Darius Yohe lead the team in scores with 17, followed by Hart Holmgren with 13.

The second half of the game had the Negaunee Miners making a comeback fighting tooth and nail, and successfully closed the gap and breathed down the Hematites necks. Ishpeming lost what was once a 17 point lead down to just 8 due to relaxing just a bit too much and got a bit sloppy on their game, and quickly picked themselves up and fought back against Negaunee maintaining a small lead up until the end against full court pressure and pulled ahead with a narrow victory with a final score of 59-54.

Darius Yohe lead the game score with 24, followed by Hart Holmhren with 20, and Gavin Sunberg with 8.
