Great Lakes Radio Celebrates Independence Day with Ishpeming in the 4th of July Parade

What a great turn out for another parade.

Marquette, MI  –  July 4, 2018  –  The Ishpeming Streets were packed for the annual Fourth of July Parade. It was a hot and humid day with a frequent breeze to cool things down while people sat at the end of Third Street waiting for the parade to begin.

The Great Lakes Radio crew was on site to share American pride with the Sunny Flex, WFXD 4×4, and the Silverado Summer Giveaway 2018 Silverado! Leading the way for the GLR caravan we had radio veterans Walt Lindala and Mike Plourde in the Sunny Flex. Adam and Bruce cruised the streets in the side by side with Bill and Joe in rear driving our grand prize for July 19th giveaway party!

This year’s parade theme was “Thanks and appreciation for our local educators” and some parade participants went all out. One of the best themed floats was Marquette County Medical Care Facility with their “Heroes” float. Their crew was dressed up in super hero costumes, cape and all. The MGH RN also had an impressive holiday themed float and a few dozen staff members making them one of the most heavily manned groups in the parade along with the USW!

Marquette Branch Prison was a real hit bringing freeze pops for the kids and everyone loved the green and gold necklaces from Northern Michigan University. This year Westwood High School also made a great showing, bringing the Football teams, Girls Basketball team, Dance team, Wrestling team, and Cheerleaders to the parade. The Negaunee City Band made their appearance followed soon after by one of the funnier floats in the procession, the Mr. U.P. group! Leading the crew they had an atv with a blow up deer head that really got people laughing. The rest of the Upper Peninsula royalty was around too with floats for Miss U.P. and Miss U.P. Teen, Miss Independence and the Pioneer Princess!

As usual the Blue Notes closed out the parade with their drill team and killer drum line! Now the crew is headed back to Marquette to get ready for the Marquette Independence Day Parade! We’ll be cruising down Washington Street around 2pm, if you couldn’t make to Ishpeming, catch us in Marquette for some candy!
