Sony recently released the Playstation 4. Microsoft is set to compete this Friday with the release of the Xbox One. This new generation of game consols is a huge leap forward in technology, but which one is better?
If you are an avid gamer or a parent with a kid begging you for the newest and best toys, here are some differences to help you decide which one is worth dropping hundreds of dollars to pick up.
First thing to keep in mind is the fact that both of these are upgrades, but in different ways. The Playstation has increased its speed and the fluidity of the games. The Xbox has set its sights on being an all in one media console that happens to play games.
The simple facts are that the Playstation has more power dedicated to playing games, while the Xbox has easy integration with apps like Hulu Plus and Netflix.
The Playstation 4 comes in at $400, that’s $100 less than the Xbox One because they chose not to ship their consoles with their camera. The Playstation “Eye” is a nice feature for parents who want their kids to stay more active as it forces kids to move to play games.
The Xbox One comes with the Kinect 2.0 for $500. It can recognize different people in the room and uses voice or motion commands to activate and play nearly every app on the system. It can also turn both the console and your television on just by saying “Xbox, turn on.” And the Kinect can change the channels on your television with voice or motion.
That may still not make the extra price worth it, so what it comes down to is which one will have better games. While both systems have a decent collection of Launch and Near-Launch titles, its important to look through the options as Playstation is putting a focus on independent games and Xbox on larger more expensive titles.
So how do you decide? If you’re buying for your kid, then ask them what their favorite games are and use that as the main factor. If you’re buying for yourself, flip a coin. Just kidding, you should think about the ways you will use the console and pick the one that best suits your needs.
Either way, there appears to be no wrong or right choice. So whether you pick now and drop the cash or wait till tax season to save up some money, keep your eyes open and your thumbs moving. Happy gaming.
