Ishpeming Girls Basketball Can’t Find Rhythm Vs Escanaba Eskymos, 72-50

Ishpeming, MI February 20th, 2020 –The Ishpeming Hematite girls traveled to Escanaba to take on the Eskymos on Thursday night. Tyler Young and Bob Nadeau were in on the action on 98.3 WRUP.

Escanaba would take an early advantage scoring off the tip and would also make their next two shots, 6-0 Escanaba, seven minutes to go in the first. At the four minute mark the Hematites were able to get their first shot of the game, but the Eskymos would lead 13-3 with three minutes to go in the opening frame. Olivia Corp would get on the board and cut the lead down to eight before another Escanaba make.

Tia Mattila would knock down a three-pointer, but like the other two Ishpeming makes, Escanaba would respond immediately. Finally, the Hematites were able to get a run to stick and would knock down three straight shots before the end of the quarter and after one, Escanaba 17, Ishpeming 13.

Ishpeming would get a quick shot to go at the start of the second and Madisyn Mead would knock down a three, but Escanaba would respond after ever make and it would be 23-15 in the early going of the second quarter. At the half way point of the quarter, Escanaba would lead, 30-23.

Rylee Harris would knock down a three with a minute to go and just like the rest of this game so far, Escanaba would go down the court and bury a three of their own to go back up eight.

At the half, 37-29 Escanaba. Nicole Kamin would lead all scorers with 29.

The start of the second half saw Escanaba trying to pull away as they would go up 45-31 in the first minute of the quarter, from there, the Eskymos would establish dominance and go up 49-34 at the four minute mark of the third. Ishpeming just couldn’t keep up with the scoring of the Eskymos. The Hematites would be outscore 22-10 in the quarter.

The domination would continue and Escanaba would go up big time, 59-39 after three.

Ishpeming couldn’t quite find their rhythm as Escanaba would go up as many as 23 points, 63-45 with about four minutes to play in the contest.

FINAL: Escanaba 72, Ishpeming 50.
