Kingsford, MI – February 23rd, 2018 – The Ishpeming Hematites High School Boys basketball team traveled to Kingsford this evening to take on the Kingsford Flivvers and took home a narrow victory with a final score of 55-52.
The Ishpeming Hematites played a very stuff game against the Kingsford Flivvers this evening after the JV Hematites suffered a loss. Ishpeming put up the first points on the board and pulled ahead of the Flivvers in the start of the game but thanks to 8 point run the Flivvers took the lead over the Hematites at the end of the first frame.
Both teams went on to trade blows in the second quarter, with the lead being passed between them on a very defensive game of basketball. This carried on through the remainder of the game shot for shot driving to the closing moments of the game when the score came down to 54-52 Hematites with just seconds left on the clock, both Hart Holdgren and Darius Yohe fouled out of the game in the fourth putting the seldom seen Drew Callister on the court.
Gaven Sundberg was fouled in the final moments of the game and went to the line for a chance to put the score out of reach for the Flivvers to send the game into overtime. Sundberg made his first shot, and missed the second to rebound by Kingsford who attempted a 3-point buzzer beater and failed with a shot too far right costing them OT and the game with a final score of 55-52 Hematites.
Hart Holmgren led the team score with 20 points, followed by Darius Yohe with 12. This brings Harts total career point total to 1046, making him the 4th all-time scoring Hematite so far with 4 games remaining.. The Hematites had 12 turnovers, made 11 of 16 free throws, and had 35 rebounds.
