Ishpeming, MI – February 22nd, 2018 – The Ishpeming Hematites Girls High School basketball team faced off against the Kingsford Flivvers to end their regular season taking victory with a final score of 54-36.
The Ishpeming JV started the night coming from 9 points behind to claim victory over the Flivvers, and the varsity girls would follow suite to take home their own win. The Hematites claimed the first score of the evening and played a narrow lead in the first frame 8-7 by the end of the first.
The second frame was very exciting if you’re a Hematites fan, Madison Pruett landed in 3 separate 3-point shots, and was joined by Madigan Johns who had one of her own. The Hematites pushed a big lead over the Flivvers in the second frame to finish out the first half 28-14.
The finale of this game was something to be expected of the Hematites girls, as we’ve seen all season long the girls dominated the court on what Ishpeming hails as senior’s night, all 5 senior starters were on court and giving their all, and so the Ishpeming Hematites did what they did best and claimed an easy victory with a final score of 54-36.
Coach Ryan Reichel gave an emotional interview with Mike Plourde of 98.3 WRUP about his long journey with the girls and their strive to take home the championship on the girls final year of play in Ishpeming.
The Ishpeming Hematites Boys are in action February 23rd when they take on the Kingsford Flivvers in hopes to take home their own W to compliment the girls. The Boys team came off a major win against the Iron Mountain Mountaineers who until they met the Hematites were undefeated in their season.
