Green Bay, WI – September 29, 2017 – A weather delay in the second quarter was seemingly the only thing that could stop the Green Bay Packers Thursday night as they cruised to a 35-14 victory over their rival Chicago Bears.
The Packers took the opening kickoff of the game and got to work. The offense made easy work of the Bears overmatched defense moving down the field without much resistance. Aaron Rodgers found Davante Adams on a quick slant from 5 yards out for a score to put the Packers up 7-0 after a Mason Crosby extra point.
It didn’t take long for the Packers to get another chance on offense. On the first play from scrimmage for the Bears, quarterback Mike Glennon dropped back to pass. Before he could go through his progression, Clay Matthews hit Glennon and the ball popped into the air. Former Michigan Wolverine Jake Ryan fell on the ball to give the ball back to the Packers first and goal. With the sack, Clay Matthews became the all time leading sack maker in Green Bay Packers franchise history.
It took three plays for Rodgers to find the end zone from 3 yards out, but all is well that ends well. Rodgers found Randall Cobb on another quick slant from 2 yards out to put the Packers up two scores. With the clock reading 8:56 in the first quarter, it was the fastest Aaron Rodgers had 2 touchdown passes recorded to begin a game in his career.
After lightning delayed the game for just under an hour before the start of the second quarter, the teams got back on the field and the Bears offense picked up where they left off. The Packers defense stifled Glennon and the Chicago offense. Green Bay finally went up by three scores when Aaron Jones scored from 2 yards out with just under 5 minutes remaining in the first half.
The Bears mustered a touchdown before halftime to get back within two scores, but it was as close as they’d get for the remainder of the game. Jordy Nelson scored two touchdowns in the second half to put the game away for the Packers.
With the win the Packers move to 3-1 on the year. The Packers now get some much needed extra rest time on a long week. They now travel to Dallas for a playoff rematch on Sunday, October 8 at 4:25 pm. Catch the action on the air on your Marquette County Green Bay Packers affiliate 98.3 WRUP.
