Big Bay de Noc Defeats The Engadine Eagles 65-48

Cooks, Michigan – 1/3/17 – The Big Bay de Noc Black Bears returned to regular season play since they last played on December 19th against North Dickenson in which they fell 56-43. Going into the game on Tuesday night against Engadine, the Black Bears were 1-5 and on  four game winning streak. The Engadine Eagles came into the game with a 5-2 record and fresh off a loss to Stephenson in a close game 49-46.

The game started a bit late as the Engadine Eagles experienced travel issues, the game that was supposed to start at 6 began at 6:30 pm. The Black Bears got off to a good start building a 15 point lead with great defense and solid shooting from the field and free throw line. The Black Bears were paced by senior forward Alexia Mercier in the 1st half

with strong offensive play and solid shooting from the free throw line, Mercier ended up with 8 points.

The second half the Eagles attempted a comeback getting within five before Brook Dalgord and Holli Stapleton took over scoring a combined 47 points, Dalgord with 24 and Stapleton with 23 to lead the Black Bears to a 65-48 victory. The Eagles leading scorer was sophomore Sophia Vaughn who added 16 followed by Mickalea Deace with 10.

The Big Bay de Noc Black Bears move to 2-5 on the season and will make a trip to Manistique this Saturday for a 1:30 pm match-up with the Emeralds. Tune into 92.7 WRUP with Ryan Ranguette and Terry Ranguette for Black Bears Basketball.
