ISHPEMING, MI – After losing their season opener last Wednesday at Superior Central the Ishpeming Lady Hematites will look to get into the win column tomorrow night in Gladstone. In last Wednesday’s contest, the Hematites were playing catch-up for most of the game. Trailing 29-17 at the end of the first quarter, the Hematites spent the last three quarters chipping away at the Cougars’ lead. They managed to tie the game late in the third quarter after allowing Superior Central just two points in the entire quarter. The Hematites were even able to take a seven point lead during the fourth quarter, but failed to close out the game in allowing the Cougars to score eight unanswered points. In the waning seconds of the game, things were tied up at 53, but Superior Central finished out the scoring with a field goal from senior Brianna Emard from five-feet out. The Cougars would also add one more free-throw to give them the 56-53 victory in their season debut.
As stated earlier, the Lady Hematites will look to get their first win of the season tomorrow night in Gladstone against the Braves (1-1). Gladstone started off their season at home with a win vs. Negaunee, but fell last night on the road to Marquette. Be sure to tune in to 98.3WRUP and join Mike Plourde & Bob Nadeau as the Lady Hematites will face off against the Gladstone Braves. The game will be tomorrow (Thursday 12/12) at 7:15pm.
