Staying Skinny on Turkey Day

Thanksgiving Turkey

Marquette, MI (11/25/13) Thanksgiving is the best smelling day of the year. The scent of turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie make me depressed. Not because I don’t love the taste of the food, but because this year I’m hoping to fight off a few extra pounds. So, I thought I’d pass along a few of the strategies I plan to use to keep from breaking my scale.

My first plan is simple, drink lots of water. It’s super obvious, but staying hydrated can eliminate temptations before they start. I’m hoping to avoid the bowl of orange slice candies or jar of olives.

That leads to my second tip, if you have to nibble on something, think about chewing gum. I’m gonna have a fresh pack in my pocket before I walk near the kitchen.

The third one is by far the hardest…portion control. Let’s be honest, I’m not gonna turn down the gravy covered mashed potatoes. Instead, keep the volcanoes a reasonable size. Remember that the more you take in, the more your waist will have to make room for.

Fourth is that if you’re like me, you see the food on the table like there’s a challenge to fit every single item the first time you fill your plate. Don’t be a hero. There’s nothing wrong with passing on the sweet potatoes on round one. As long as you limit the rounds to two or three of course.

Fifth is my favorite, make it last. By slowing down on Thursday, I plan to get at least a week’s worth of turkey sandwiches from what I take home. Why should the goodness end when the tin foil comes out?

I hope my hints help curb your hunger. If you have any other tips or tricks tell me in the comments section below.

And from all of us here at WRUP have a Happy Thanksgiving!
