The open of the Districts tonight started as the Ishpeming Hematite Girls hopes to defend their District title. They got off to a good start as they defeated the Gwinn Modeltowners in Negaunee 68-49.
After a slow start in the first quarter the Hematites came to life and were able to build a seven point lead by halftime 27-20. From there the Hematites were able to keep the shots falling as they were able to extend their lead further and further over the Modeltowners to put away the game 68-49.
Ishpeming Hematite Girls basketball continues in the District Regionals when they play the winner of the Negaunee/Westwood game on Friday, March 1th in Negaunee. Pre-game will be at 7 PM and tip-off will be at 7:30 PM right here on WRUP 98.3FM.
