Ishpeming Hematites (59) Girls Basketball vs. Norway Knights (41)
Ishpeming, MI – February 12th, 2015 – The Ishpeming Hematites girls basketball team took on the Norway Knights at home tonight. Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau brought you the action live on 98.3 WRUP!
The Hematites won the tip off, and jumped to an early lead thanks to a shot by Jessica Spencer, and a layup in transition by Tammy Simula. Simula scored again followed by Marissa Maino getting points in the paint to give Ishpeming a 8-4 lead halfway through the quarter. Jessica Spencer hit a 3-pointer later in the quarter, but the Knights took the lead before the end of the quarter, with Ishpeming trailing 11-14 going into the second quarter.

The Hematites started the second quarter on a run with Spencer and Simula both scoring, as well as Kaylee Engler getting on the board to give the Hematites an early 18-15 lead. After a Norway free throw, the Hematites went on a 7 point run behind a layup and 3-pointer from Spencer, followed by Maino scoring to make it 25-15. Lindsey Thompson hit a 3 with less than a minute left, and then another 3 at the buzzer to give the Hematites a 33-21 lead going into halftime.
The Hematites scored at will early in the third quarter, with Engler scoring 7 points in the first half of the quarter, along with Spencer, Maino and Morgan Skytta each scoring to give the Hematites a 46-30 lead halfway through the quarter. Engler kept her scoring tirade going, contributing a total of 11 points in the third quarter alone, and the Hematites lead 50-34 going into the final quarter!

The Hematites had only one objective in the fourth quarter, and that was to hold on to their 16 point lead. Most of Ishpeming’s fourth quarter points came at the free throw line, and they held on for a **-** win.

The Hematites had 3 players in double digits: Jessica Spencer had 17 points and 8 rebounds, Kaylie Engler had 15 points, and Lindsey Thompson scored 10 points for the Hematites. The JV team beat Norway 51-28.
The Ishpeming Hematites will take on the L’anse Purple Hornets at home on Monday, February 16th at 7:30pm on 98.3 WRUP and WRUP.com!
