Ishpeming, MI – February 9th, 2015 – The Ishpeming Hematites boys basketball team took on the Westwood Patriots in Ishpeming tonight, a reschedule of a previously scheduled game. Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau brought you the action live on 98.3 WRUP & WRUP.com!
The Hematites lost the tip-off and Westwood’s Luke Gray scored the first basket of the game. After another Westwood basket, Travis Fredy scored a layup on the left side to make it 2-4. Westwood would score twice more to make it 2-8. A free throw by Thomas Finegan was followed by a running jumper by Ozzy Hakkarinen with less than 4 minutes in the quarter to make it 5-8. On the next possession Ozzy Corp scored in the paint, cutting the Westwood lead to 1 point. Luke Kuliu gave the Hematites their first lead with a jump shot, followed by another to make it 11-8 going into the second quarter.

Westwood scored the first two baskets of the second quarter to regain the lead. Kuliu scored on a jumpshot, and after a Patriots 3-pointer, Kuliu scored in the paint to make it 15-15. Kuliu scored again for the Hematites, but the Patriots went on a run to make it 17-21 with less than 4 minutes left in the half. Thomas Finegan scored in the paint, and the Patriots continued their run to take a 19-27 lead. A Kuliu layup made it a 21-27 game at halftime.

Kyle Torres hit a free throw, followed by Hakkarinen scoring in the paint to start the third quarter for the Hematites. Finegan scored six points in the third quarter for the Hematites, as Ishpeming tried to trim the Patriots lead. Fredy scored to make it 32-36 with 1:30 left in the quarter. Westwood scored 2 more points at the free throw before the end of the quarter, and the Hematites were down 32-38 going into the fourth.

Luke Kuliu scored in the paint two plays in a row to make it 37-38 with 5 minutes left in the game. Ozzy Hakkarinen gave the Hematites a lead, until Westwood scored their first basket of the quarter to make it 39-40. After a Westwood basket, Kyle Torres stole the ball and made a layup to tie the game at 42. A Patriots free throw was followed by Nick Comment scoring to give the Hematites a 44-43 lead with a minute left in play. Westwood missed a shot at the buzzer, and the Hematites held on for the victory.

The Hematites were lead in scoring by Luke Kuliu, who had 16 points, as well as Thomas Finegan who had 9 points and 9 rebounds for the Hematites in the win.
