Ishpeming, Michigan – January 23rd, 2015 – The Ishpeming Hematites girls basketball team took on the Manistique Emeralds in Ishpeming tonight! Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau brought you all the action live on 98.3 WRUP & WRUP.com!
Ishpeming was the first on the board after Jessica Spencer scored on their first possession. After a Manistique basket, Kaylie Engler scored on back-to-back plays to make it 6-2. Engler scored again, and on the next play Spencer stole the ball and scored on a break-away layup, and did the exact same a second time to make it 12-2. After another basket from Engler, Khora Swanson got on the board with a 3-pointer. Manistique got a point from the free throw line, and then Marissa Maino grabbed a rebound on defense and took it across the court herself to score a basket to make it 19-3. Jessica Penhale grabbed an offensive rebound and scored at the end of the quarter, putting Ishpeming up 21-3 into the second quarter.

Ishpeming started the second quarter with a large lead, and after a Hematites free throw, Manistique scored 6 straight points to make it 22-9. Jessica Spencer ended the Hematites drought when she stole the ball on a Manistique pass and took it to the basket to make it 24-9. Ishpeming quickly put 6 straight points on the board with Tammy Simula and Kaylie Engler both scoring off of stolen passes. Ishpeming would stretch their lead before halftime, going into the third quarter with a 38-12 lead.

Jessica Spencer scored the Hematites first 8 points in the third quarter, giving Ishpeming a 46-13 lead. Kaylie Engler scored on a fast break layup with 3 minutes left in the quarter to make it 48-13. The Hematites would score another 7 straight points to make it 55-13 at the end of the quarter, starting a running clock.

Brianna Aho scored on the first play of the final quarter, and then hit a 3-pointer on the play. After two free throws from Manistique, Marissa Maino made two free throws, and then Khora Swanson had a 3-point play for the Hematites. Hailly Thompson got her first points of the night with a jumpshot with 2 minutes left in the game. Jessica Penhale scored two free throws near the end of the game, and the Ishpeming Hematites won the game, 69-20.

The Hematites were lead in scoring by Jessica Spencer, who scored 17 points. Marissa Maino and Kaylie Engler contributed 14 and 12 points, respectively. Tammy Simula scored 9 points in the win.
The Ishpeming Hematites girls team will play against the Negaunee Miners in Negaunee on Monday, January 26th at 7:30p on 98.3 WRUP.
