Tonight the Ishpeming Hematites kicked off their season opener on the road with a convincing win over the Iron Mountain Mountaineers 34-0.
The Hematites found scoring from everyone as the first four touchdowns were from four different players. They struck first capitalizing on a Iron Mountain fumbled punt return. This led to a five play forty five yard drive that found the end-zone at 6:47 of the first quarter.
It was just over four minutes later that another Iron Mountain mistake led to Hematites points on the board as the Mountaineers hiked the ball over the punters head for great field position. Three plays later a five yard run led to a 14-0 to go into half.
From there, the Hematites were able to pour on two more touchdowns in the second half to pad the lead to a 34-0 final.
The Ishpeming Hematites will play Manistique Emeralds next week with the kickoff at 7:30 PM and pregame at 7PM with Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau right here on 98.3 WRUP We Rock The UP.
