Gwinn MI – 03/13/2021 – The Ishpeming Hematites travel to Gwinn to face the Modeltowners here on WRUP 98.3
The first two minutes of the game was punctuated by several attempted threes, the first one made by Gwinn to put them in a short lived three point lead. Preston Gauthier then single-handedly went on a 6-0 run putting them in the lead. Parker Gauthier replacing his brother came into the game and continued scoring in the Ishpeming scoring run, getting an and one. Hematites finish up the first quarter on a 17-0 run.
Preston continued the run by making a tree pointer early in the second and after Gwinn ended the run Preston answered with yet another three pointer leaving the score at 23-5 with the Hematites dominating at both ends. Twelve turnovers during the run led to to the easy lead. Gwinn’s offense began to wake up at the the end of the half leaving the score t halftime to be 33-15.
Scoring slowed down with the start of the second half both team seemingly coming out with more defense in mind. Mid third quarter The Modeltowners began to chip away with six unanswered points. Ishpeming still holding onto the game 33-15.
With a Large lead going into the final eight minutes Ishpeming was able to keep steady pressure to keep the game under their control. There was more back and forth scoring in the fourth quarter than we had seen all game but Ishpeming was just to hot early on for the Modeltowners to catch up.
