Manistique, MI – February 16th, 2018 – The Ishpeming Hematites Boys High School Basketball team traveled to Manistique this evening to win the game against the Manistique Emeralds with a final score of 67-40.
The game victory was something everyone was sure of seeing as how the Emeralds have only won 2 games this season so far. The real story of this evening was Ishpeming Hematites player Hart Holmgren who became the 5th Ishpeming boy to break 1000 career points in his tenure. In a thrilling game not one mention of the pending feat was to be heard, not by either of the two teams and certainly not by WRUP’s Tyler Young and Bob Nadeau as though this would lead to some curse.
Great Lakes Radio, and all of us here at the station congratulate Hart for this amazing accomplishment and wish him well as he moves on after the career all time score record, something very possible to achieve and we’ll be bringing you all the action on 98.3 WRUP. In a superb show of sportsmanship, the Manistique Emeralds awarded Hart the game ball as a trophy of his personal success.
Even though the Hematites approached the game very confident, the Emeralds played a solid game of basketball and for the first half of the game held a very tight score with Ishpeming. Skyler Anderson of the Emeralds played a solid offense against the Ishpeming boys, and it would be wise to not overlook Skyler as an actual competitor in the future.
Hart Holmgren led the team score with a total of 28 points, followed by Gavin Sundberg with 13. The Hematites had 13 turnovers and 30 rebounds.
The Ishpeming Hematites Boys will be back in action February 19th when they take on the Iron Mountain Mountaineers in what is probably their toughest match of the season. Join Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau for all the action. Pregame is at 7:10, tip-off at 7:30, join us on 98.3 WRUP and streaming online at WRUP.com.
