Ishpeming, MI– October 15th, 2021– The Ishpeming Hematites played against Bark-River Harris and lost in Thursday night’s game. The game was broadcasted live on 98.3 WRUP.
1st Quarter- In the first quarter of Thursday nights game the Ishpeming Hematites kicked the ball to the Broncos and Logan Kirkloff (#10) picked up the ball and fumbled it. The Hematites picked up the fumble and started their first drive of the night at the 24 yard line. With some good momentum going the Hematites ran their Wildcat formation and Luke Kostreva (11) ran the ball and gained a first down for the Hemaites at the 30 yard line. With two wide receivers Ryan Maki (4) and Samual Dyer (14) on the right side Luke Kostreva decided to run again and gained another first down for the Hematites. An incomplete pass for Ishpeming caused a turnover and the Bark River-Harris Broncos took back the ball. With the Harris team under center at their own 50 yard line they had some efficient running plays that hurled them down the field. The Bark River-Harris Broncos own Noah Gagne (8) had a great play for 31 yards across the 42 yard line. Pushing forward in Thursday’s game for the Bark River team. was Trevor Lippens (14). Quarterback for the Bronco team, Ethan Ives (7) had fast and efficient hand off plays to Trevor Lippens all night. At 1st and goal, Ives played another hand-off to Lippens and ran into the endzone for the first touchdown of the night. An unsuccessful two point conversion left the score at the end of the first quarter at 6-0 for the Bark River-Harris Broncos
2nd Quarter- Going into the second quarter the Bark-River Broncos led with 6 points on the board and an unsuccessful drive by the Hematites caused them to kick it away to the Broncos with a 38 yard punt by Dawson Lawry (15). The Bark River team drove forward with a heavy foot continuing in Thursday’s game. After an 18 yard run by Trevor Lippens, a hand off play up the middle to Ethan Gagne gained yet another touchdown for the Bark River team. Another unsuccessful two point conversion and the touchdown puts the score at 12-0. With under 5 minutes left in the first half of Thursday night’s game the Hematites struggled to find some footing on the field. After an incomplete pass intended for A.J. Prosser (86) the ball was returned to the Bark River-Harris for the end of the first half.
3rd Quarter- With the second half underway the Ishpeming Hematites and Bark River-Harris Broncos are both looking strong in their defensive plays. The Hematites pushed for some successful offensive plays. With nowhere to go after a 4th down the Hematites were forced into a turnover on downs. Bark River’s own Trevor Lippens kept driving down the field. The short quick passes brought the team down the field to a 2nd down with 11 yards to go for another touchdown. From a mystery player the score is brought up to 20-0 with a touchdown for the Broncos and a two point conversion. Later in the quarter an interception play by the Broncos took the score to 26-0 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
4th Quarter- In the last quarter of the game, the Hematites and Broncos quickly moved up and down the field. Trevor Lippens kicked the ball to the Hematites 29 yard line where Ishpeming began their last drive of the game. With two wide receivers on the outside, Logan Hurkmans (36) completes the pass and Ethan Corp (32). The Hematites exercised the wildcat formation but were just short of the first down by a yard. After an unsuccessful drive by the Hematites, their season ended with a loss to the Bark River-Harris Broncos with 26-0.
