Ishpeming, MI– October 15th, 2021– The Ishpeming Hematites faced off against Iron Mountain Mountaineers and lost in Friday night’s game. The game was broadcasted live on 98.3 WRUP.
1st Quarter- In the first quarter of the game the Ishpeming team started off with the ball and chose to kick it away to the Mountaineers. Starting their drive at the 30 yard line the Mountaineers ran for 8 yards. A star player of the night Luke Wolfe (18) gains a first down for Iron Mountain. The Ishpeming team gets a pass interference penalty for 15 yards giving the Mountaineers a little more room to score. A successful run play by Luke Wolfe gives Iron Mountain a touchdown. Brandon Farragh successfully gains an extra point for a score of 7-0 for the Iron Mountain team. The returned ball goes to the Hematites however it was fumbled at the 24 yard line and picked back up by Iron Mountain. With only 7 yards on their first play, the team
kept pushing forward and Bradon Farragh (20) got to the end zone yet again for another touchdown for the Iron Mountain team. The Hematites take the ball back at the 26 yard line. Ishpeming’s own Luke Kostreva (11) got a couple great plays in their first half with a hand off play getting across the 46 yard line. A penalty for holding sends the Ishpeming team back 15 yards until their first down until the Hematites got to the 4th down and sent the ball away to Iron Mountain. After just their first play, the Mountaineer Luke Wolfe ran down the field on a foot race against the Hematites and scored another touchdown for Iron Mountain. 21-0 for the Mountaineers. With pressure on the Hematites building, they started on the 20 yard line after a touch back. After a snapped ball got loose, Iron Mountain’s own Joe Colavecchi picked up the ball for a defensive touchdown. The Ishpeming Hematites were unable to sustain a drive and the first quarter ended with a score of 28-0 for the Mountaineers.
2nd Quarter- In the second quarter the Iron Mountain team was in the middle of their drive and Joe Colavecchi pushed the ball in the end zone for another touchdown. The Hematites returned the ball and started their own drive of the 2nd quarter at the 28 yard line. After a successful run past the 50 yard line by Luke Kostreva, he passed an interception to Colavecchi giving Iron Mountain the ball back. Iron Mountain takes the possession at the 29 yard line. With a couple of great offensive plays by the Hematites utilizing the sidelines they returned the ball back to the Mountaineers. After the team gained a first down on a new possession Wolfe carried the ball across to the 35 yard line. A successful play by Joe Colevecchi passed to Luke Decker (25) and made it to the 23 yard line. Luke Wolfe with a successful pass gets across the Hematites defense for a 32 yard touchdown. The 2nd quarter and first half of Friday night’s game ended 42-0.
3rd Quarter- In the second half of Friday night’s game the Ishpeming Hematites received the kick-off with a 15 yard return. A hand off play to Ishpeming’s own Dawson Delongchamp (17) brought the Hematites past the 25 yard line however a whistle for a false start was blown and sent them back to their starting line of scrimmage. A turn over brings the Mountaineers another chance to score again. A pass from Colavecchi to Max Jayne was complete and gave Iron Mountain yet another touchdown. The extra kick was good and brought them up to 49-0 with just under 8 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Dawson Delongchamp returned the kick and the Hematites began their drive at the 28 yard line. The Wildcat formation gives the Hematites a good opening to score. A run to the left side sends the Ishpeming team out to the 40 yard line. With no time to make another play the 3rd quarter ends 49-0 for the Iron Mountain Mountaineers.
4th Quarter- The last quarter of Friday’s game gave a little bit more spirit to the Ishpeming team. At their own 11 yard line the Hematites made a successful run into the end zone and two point conversion for their first Touchdown of Friday evenings football game. The Ishpeming team made their way on the board with 8 points starting the 4th quarter. The returner on the kick was Max Jayne who started the Iron Mountain drive at the 35 yard line. Iron Mountain kept pushing forward to the first down. A good defensive run by the Hematites forces a turnover on downs. The Hematites gained more speed during the last quarter and Dawson Lawry ran a successful second touchdown for Ishpeming. A 2 point conversion pass attempt that was intended for Hailey Hytinen (83) failed.ending the game at 49-14 for the Iron Mountain Mountaineers.
