Iron Mountain – November 3, 2023 – Ishpeming Hematites Football traveled to Iron Mountain on Friday to face off against the Iron Mountain Mountaineers in the second round of the MHSAA playoffs! Tyler Young and Bob Nadeau call live from the stadium on 98.3 WRUP.com!
Ishpeming defenses where looking good to begin the quarter but Iron Mountain got the first touch down with 20 yards open on either side of the Iron Mountain player giving them a 7-0 lead against the Hematites in the first quarter. Hunter Smith swung the pendulum in Ishpemings’ favor with a catch across the 35 yard line and getting the Hematites their first touch down of the game. However the pendulum, unfortunately, swung swiftly back into the Mountaineers play as they finished off with a 20-8 score at half time.
The last half of the game was a true test of the Hematites perseverance. It was a tough fight with the ball in Iron Mountains ball park most of the game, but Ishpeming fought hard. Hunter Smith getting one more touch down in, but it wasn’t enough to take down the Mountaineers. Losing the game with a score 40-16 which unfortunately means that Ishpeming Hematites Football will not be continuing in the MHSAA playoffs. To end the season on a high note, the ending score is the closest game in the Iron Mountains season with only a 24 point difference which is something for Ishpeming to be proud of!
