Gwinn, MI – December 13th, 2017 – The Ishpeming Hematites Boys’ Basketball team faced off against the Gwinn Modeltowners this evening claiming an easy victory 67-39 bringing the Hematites boys to 2-1.
The Hematites team this year are sporting the most team height in years, giving them what is thought to be a great potential season. Tucker Taylor of the Modeltowners would be the man the Hematites would need to shut down and stop, and the Hematites took no hesitations when coming into the first frame, moving into the lead over Gwinn, and finished a very strong 15-6.
The second quarter was an onslaught by the Hematites who doubled the score on Gwinn. Despite a valiant effort by Tucker Taylor putting up 12 of the 16 points for the Modeltowners, the Hematites boys piled on the baskets, with a couple big 3 pointers from Gavin Sundberg, and a skew of baskets by Hart Holmgren and Jaden Tucker. The Hematites dominated the second frame 29-16 going into halftime.
A total blowout of the game is the only way to describe the third frame, the Hematites had total court dominance, and their only opposition was Tucker Taylor who scored the entirety of the Modeltowners points before being injured and took to the bench to recover for the remainder of the third while Ishpeming mopped the court. The end of the third saw 51-31 Hematites.
The final frame was not any different for the Modeltowners, Tucker Taylor returned to the court and kept his momentum for Gwinn, but it was just not enough to close the gap on the Hematites. Drew Collister made his first basket of the season, Drew is described as being a great kid with a great attitude and is happy to be on the team, very respected and liked by his peers.
Without any doubt the Hematites won the game 67-39. Gavin Sundberg scored 15 points leading the team, with only 7 team turnovers and 37 team rebounds. Each boy on the team made a score this game making it the first time in the season. The JV also scored a victory in Gwinn 64-33.
