Ishpeming Hematites Girls Basketball (46) VS Westwood Patriots (40) on 98.3 WRUP and 12/15/2015

Ishpeming, Michigan – December 15th, 2015 – Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau were in Ishpeming, MI for the Ishpeming Hematites game against the Westwood Patriots on 98.3 WRUP and The Hematites looked to keep their season going strong, and Mike and Bob brought you their stats and predictions during the Honor Credit Union pregame show!

Hematite_Girls_VS_Westwood_Patriots_02The Westwood Patriots were able to take the opening tip-off, but the Ishpeming Hematites quickly put a stop to their drive. Khora Swanson scored the first points of the game when she nailed a three-pointer from just outside the line. The Hematites broke out to an early five to two lead, and they looked to keep their scoring drive going. Fouls played an important role in the first quarter, giving Ishpeming lots of free throws, and they took full advantage of the opportunity. At the end of the first quarter, the Hematites led by a score of 20-9.

Hematite_Girls_VS_Westwood_Patriots_03The second quarter saw the Ishpeming Hematites leading the Westwood Patriots, but Westwood did their best to fight back with lots of game left to play. Jessica Penhale played some great defense, shutting down multiple scoring attempts from the Patriots in the second quarter. Some great ball movement helped keep Ishpeming in the lead, and they did their best to shut down the Patriots’ offense. Mariah Austin helped keep the scoring going for Ishpeming when she nailed a long three with under a minute left to play in the first half.

First Half Score:
Ishpeming Hematites: 34
Westwood Patriots: 18

Hematite_Girls_VS_Westwood_Patriots_04The tip off for the second half of play was won by the Ishpeming Hematites, who were able to drive quickly to the basket and add two more points to their score. Fouls in the second half were much more sparse, with the Hematites having just three fouls as a team in the third quarter with around two minutes left to play. The score was 41-28 with one minute left in the quarter, and the Patriots did their best to fight their way back into the game, but Ishpeming’s defense held their scoring to a minimum.

Hematite_Girls_VS_Westwood_Patriots_05The final quarter of play opened with the Ishpeming Hematites in control of the ball, and after a few great rebounds, the Hematites added two more points to their total. Marissa Maino fought hard for Ishpeming, hitting the floor several times throughout the game to secure ball control for the Hematites. The Patriots seemed to find their offense, going on an eight-point scoring run, which was finally stopped when Marissa Maino scored for Ishpeming with four minutes left in the game. The Hematites led 46-33 with two minutes left to play in the game, but Westwood kept themselves in contention with some great offense. As the game wound to a close, the Ishpeming Hematites were able to hold off the Patriots to take the win by a score of 46-40.
