Packers Open Pre-Season With a 20-16 Loss at Tennessee

Written by on August 10, 2014

NASHVILLE, TN –  Football in Titletown is back, and so is another year of the Green ‘n Gold on 98.3 WRUP.  The Green Bay Packers started off the pre-season in Nashville with a match up against the Tennessee Titans.

As per the norm, the Packers sat down their top players for the first pre-season game as to better evaluate the other players on the roster.  So for this week, the fans had to go without seeing QB Aaron Rodgers, RB Eddie Lacy, and WR Jordy Nelson on the field.   This led to some players showcasing their abilities for the coaching staff in Green Bay.

On offense, James Starks impressed with 49 yards on just 6 carries including a 20-yard Touchdown run.  Also impressing the staff in a crowded backfield was rookie running back Rajion Neal, who had 39 yards on five carries and a touchdown.  DuJuan Harris, who missed the 2013-2014 season with a torn ACL, got his first action since returning to the team, and finished the game with 18 yards on 7 attempts.

The game took place in the middle of a downpour, so the Packers had to focus more on the run than the passing game (35 rushing attempts to just 25 passes).  Matt Flynn started the game and played most of the first half for the Packers, going 5-10 for 49 yards.  After Flynn came former Wisconsin Badger Scott Tolzien.  Tolzien performed well during his second half excursions, completing 8 passes out of 12 for 124 yards.

At the end of the day, the Packers played well offensively and defensively.  The touchdown allowed in the first quarter came after 2nd round pick Devante Adams fumbled a punt that Tennessee recovered.  That was followed by a Shonn Greene 13-yard touchdown run.

The game ended with the Tennessee Titans defeating the Green Bay Packers 20-16.  The Packers will play on Saturday August 16th at 4pm EST in St. Louis against the Rams.  Be sure to join Wayne & Larry with us here on 98.3 WRUP!
