2/20/2014 Negaunee, Michigan — On this Thursday evening, the Ishpeming Hematites Girls Basketball Team were ready to battle rival Negaunee Miners on their home turf in Negaunee, Michigan tonight on 98.3 WRUP. The Negaunee Miners and Ishpeming Hematites were not only preparing for a battle, but were also preparing for a Winter Storm as it was approaching Negaunee, Michigan on this Thursday evening from the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Both the Ishpeming Hematites and Negaunee Miners were vying for a chance to be co-MPC Champions alongside the Westwood Patirots.

Mike Plourde said “Both coaches from both teams didn’t have a whole lot to say about tonight’s game.” Mike went on to say “This is a big game tonight with a lot of implications.”
The National Anthem rings in the first quarter at 7:35pm on Thursday night on Real Classic Rock 98.3 WRUP. The Hematites led the Miners 6-2 early-on in the first quarter. With 5:18 left in the first quarter, the Ishpeming Hematites lead the Negaunee Miners 7-2 on Real Classic Rock 98.3 WRUP. It was all Hematites in the first quarter as they had a lead of 16-6 behind Kaylie Engler’s great start to the game (six points in the quarter!) with three minutes left to go in the first. The Miners were able to rally, unfortunately, and cut the lead down to five. The first quarter finally came to a close with the Hematites holding a healthy lead over the Negaunee Miners 17-12.
The Negaunee Miners get the ball to start the second quarter on Real Classic Rock 98.3 WRUP. Jessica Spencer managed to put up ten points in this first half and gave the Lady Hematites a comfortable 26-17 lead during the second quarter, you could say the Hematites were on their way to a victory on this Thursday evening on Negaunee’s home court. Mike Plourde said “With 3:21 left to go in the second quarter, the Hematites have the lead over the Miners 26-17.” The buzzer sounds and the first half comes to a close with the Hematites in the lead over the Negaunee Miners 28-22 on Real Classic Rock 98.3 WRUP.
During halftime Mike Plourde said “This is the last regular season game for the Ishpeming Hematite Girls.”
After a flurry of turnovers by the Hematites, the Negaunee Miners and Ishpeming Hematites were tied up at 30 with 4-1/2 minutes left in the third quarter on Real Classic Rock 98.3 WRUP. The Miners then took their first lead of the game 31-30 over the Hematites on 98.3 WRUP. The Negaunee Miners were on a hot-streak and pushed their lead to 37-30 with a 1:23 left to go in the quarter. The third quarter came to an end with the Miners in the lead over the Hematites 37-33.
Gabbie Croley put a shot up for the Hematites and it was in! With 7:10 left to go in the fourth quarter, the Miners led the Hematites 39-36. With 6 minutes left to play, the Negaunee Miners had a foul. It’s 40-36 with the Negaunee Miners still in the lead over the Ishpeming Hematites. The Hematites trail by 4 points, 42-38 in the fourth quarter of action. With 2 minutes to play, the Negaunee Miners still hold the lead 45-42. Let’s go Hematites! The comeback wouldn’t be completed, though, as the Negaunee Miners defeat the Ishpeming Hematites 53-49 on Real Classic Rock 98.3 WRUP.
