Sunny Friday night in Westwood as our Ishpeming Hematites are defeated by the Negaunee Miners.

Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau brought you the exciting High School Boys Basketball Play by Play from the Westwood High School.

At the end of the first quarter the Negaunee Miners lead 16-5.  At the half the Miners also lead, the Hematites trailed by 9,  score 23-14, Miners.  The Miner Boys lead yet another quarter, finishing the third quarter 38-27.  Our Hematite Boys fought and played a great game along with an incredible season, however it wasn’t quite enough as the Miners came out victorious.

Ishpeming Hematites Face off against the Negaunee Miners!

Perhaps the game of the season is coming up on Friday night in the Westwood gym. Fierce cross-town rivals the Negaunee Miners and the Ishpeming Hematites will face off against each other in the MHSAA Boys District Tournament Championship game.

Tip-off time is 7:00pm. Great Lakes Radio will broadcast the game on both Sunny 101.9 WKQS and on 98.3 WRUP.

The Hematites will send out the likes of Alex Briones, Tyrus Milimaki, Dylan Maki, Jordan Windahl, and Mike Hill, among others, against the regular-season Mid-Peninsula champion Negaunee Miners who feature Tyler Jandron, Zack Marshall, Tanner Uren, Brock Weaver, and Tyler Beaumont.

It will be a battle for supremacy and bragging rights. Negaunee has won both games in the regular season. Ishpeming will be trying to stop that streak and continue on to regional play. It’s “one and done” ….the loser goes home. The winner goes on to regional play in Escanaba next week. It will be a grudge match right from the opening tip-off. Both teams want to win very badly, both teams play very well, and both teams want to continue the season.

Friday night at 7:00pm in the Westwood gym it’s the Negaunee Miners against the Ishpeming Hematites.  Don’t Miss it!

Rainy Wednesday night in Gwinn as our Ishpeming Hematites defeat the Gwinn Modeltowners.

Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau brought you the exciting High School Boys Basketball Play by Play from the Gwinn High School.

At the end of the first quarter the Hematites lead 14-6.  At the half the Modeltowners lead, Ishpeming trailed by 2,  score 27-25, Gwinn.  Then, at the end of the third quarter the Hematite boys took over, the quarter wrapping up 39-37.

At the Regionals in Marquette tonight, the lady Ishpeming Hematites were hoping to advance past the Houghton Gremlins but unfortunately ended their run tonight, dropping the game 77-49.

The Gremlins jumped out to a 16-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and from there never looked back, leading by half 35-20.

The lady Hematites were District champions for the second year in a row.

Ishpeming Hematites basketball continues with the boys on Wednesday, March 7th in Gwinn. Pregame will be 5:30PM and tip off will be at 6PM right here on WRUP 98.3FM.

Tonight the lady Ishpeming Hematites pulled off an upset victory over the favorites Negaunee Miners in Gwinn in district final play.

From the get go the Hematites led in the game, being up 7-1 at the end of the first and up by twelve points at half.  After the half the Hematites only built onto their lead refusing to let the Miners back in the game.

Next up for the Ishpeming Hematites girls is the Regionals on Tuesday, March 6th in Escanaba. Pregame will be 6:30PM and tip off will be at 7PM right here on WRUP 98.3FM.

Gwinn, Michigan — The Ishpeming Hematites battled the Westwood Patriots in Gwinn tonight! It was a rough evening during the first few quarters for your Hematites, but in the fourth quarter your Hematites managed to hold a lead over the Westwood Patriots. Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau brought you all the action on 98.3 WRUP!

At halftime your Ishpeming Hematites trailed the Westwood Patriots 33-17. However, the Hematites managed to turn things around near the end of the fourth quarter with a score of 44-43.
