At the Regionals in Marquette tonight, the lady Ishpeming Hematites were hoping to advance past the Houghton Gremlins but unfortunately ended their run tonight, dropping the game 77-49.

The Gremlins jumped out to a 16-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and from there never looked back, leading by half 35-20.

The lady Hematites were District champions for the second year in a row.

Tonight the lady Ishpeming Hematites pulled off an upset victory over the favorites Negaunee Miners in Gwinn in district final play.

From the get go the Hematites led in the game, being up 7-1 at the end of the first and up by twelve points at half.  After the half the Hematites only built onto their lead refusing to let the Miners back in the game.

Next up for the Ishpeming Hematites girls is the Regionals on Tuesday, March 6th in Escanaba. Pregame will be 6:30PM and tip off will be at 7PM right here on WRUP 98.3FM.

Gwinn, Michigan — The Ishpeming Hematites battled the Westwood Patriots in Gwinn tonight! It was a rough evening during the first few quarters for your Hematites, but in the fourth quarter your Hematites managed to hold a lead over the Westwood Patriots. Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau brought you all the action on 98.3 WRUP!

At halftime your Ishpeming Hematites trailed the Westwood Patriots 33-17. However, the Hematites managed to turn things around near the end of the fourth quarter with a score of 44-43.

As the season come to a close this week, the Ishpeming Hematite boys hoped for win to help build momentum for districts but ran into a tough West Iron County Wykon team.

The Hematites stormed out of the gate, leading by six points at the end of the first quarter but the Wykons were able to catch up, with the Hematites leading by one 28-27 at the end of the half.

In the second half the Wykons were able to get the lead and build on it, as the Hematites just couldn’t figure out an answer for West Iron County.

The Ishpeming Hematites defeat the Munising Mustangs

Snowy Friday night in Ishpeming as our Ishpeming Hematites defeat the Munising Mustangs.  Music for tonight’s game was played by The Ishpeming Drum and Bugle Corp.

Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau brought you the exciting High School Boys Basketball Play by Play from the Ishpeming High School.

At the end of the first quarter the Munising Mustangs  lead 8-7.  At the half the tables turned and Ishpeming took the lead, however Munising only trailed by 1,  score 21-20, Ishpeming.  Then, at the end of the third quarter the Hematite boys increased their lead over the Mustangs to 10, the quarter wrapping up 39-29.

The Ishpeming Hematites were hoping to play spoilers tonight against the Negaunee Miners but unfortunately ended their regular season with a loss tonight as they dropped the game 44-33.

The teams played evenly matched throughout the first half with Hematites only being down by three, 17-14.  It was the second half where the Miners were able to capitalize on turnover to pull away for the win.
