Educational Savings Fund to Benefit Infant Survivor

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Ali Stark, installer at McCabe’s Quality Flooring, age 26, died December 29, 2011 due to injuries brought on by an automobile accident on Glass’s Curve on M-553 in Sands Township.

Ali was an extremely hard worker and an over all remarkable individual. He excelled in both academics and music. He was a devoted husband and an extremely loving father. His wife, Tricia, and six month old daughter, River, were his world and he did everything in his power to protect them.

In order to insure his daughter’s future, an educational savings fund is being created in her name. This will help support the family during this difficult time. Checks can be made out to Edward Jones and dropped off or mailed to McCabe’s Flooring in Genesee Street in Marquette. You can also contact Doug Gordan at Edward Jones office.

“We at McCabe’s feel that is important to secure River’s future in any way possible. This Educational savings fund will be a huge assistance to River and her family.” said Bill McCabe Jr.

Sugarloaf Mountain Brush Fire – August 30th, 2011

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011
Fire in Sugarloaf Mountain Marquette

Small flames were scattered about.

Marquette, MI – 08/30/2011 - Department of Natural Resources Fire Control responded to a small brush fire burning on the north side of Sugarloaf Mountain in Marquette County, right before the entrance to Wetmore Landing. The fire was reported at approximately 7:15 last night and is estimated to be about 3 acres in size.  Fire fighters on the scene are working to establish a fire line today and hold the fire to its current size. It is primarily burning through brush and rocky terrain, affecting the occasional tree.  DNR officials say smoke is visible from the city of Marquette and surrounding areas. Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling in the area of County Road 550 and the parking areas near Sugarloaf. Some smoke is drifting across County Road 550, and as night falls, thicker smoke could cause visibility issues.

12th Annual Ishpeming Art Faire & Renaissance Festival Great Success

Ishpeming Art Faire and Renaissance Festival 2011

Ishpeming Art Faire and Renaissance Festival 2011

Ishpeming, Michigan - Bancroft ParkAugust 6, 2011 – The twelfth Annual Ishpeming Renaissance Festival brought together artist, period performers, vendors and “costumes inspired by historical culture.”   Vikings, Samuri, Pirates and a Fire Eater mixed with more traditional Renaissance performers and presentations.   Families watched and kids even joined in the fun with dancers, musicians, singers, swordsman and Renaissance games, often mesmerized by ax throwing and sword fights.

A bit warm and humid,  breezes  blew across the lakeside park all day, providing great relief to costume performers and visitors. While ominous clouds threaten all day, only sprinkles fell from opening at 10a to close at 7p, when it finally poured as the festival wrapped up.

Music and stage performances included fight demonstrations, Midwest Amateur Renaissance Society, blacksmith demos, Society of Creative Anachronism, Kojokon Shinbutai Samurai, and period demonstrations and costumes throughout day.  Many attendees came wearing their own designs.
