125th Annual Ski Jumping Tournament February 8 at Suicide Hill Ski Bowl

Ishpeming, Michigan - The 125th Annual Ski Jumping Tournament will be held on Wednesday, February 8 at Suicide Hill Ski Bowl. Trial rounds start at 6pm EST with competition jumping to follow. The tournament is hosted by the
Ishpeming Ski Club and Range Bank.

Admission is per person and buttons can be purchased for $10 in advance or $15 at the gate and are available now at Range Bank branch offices, ski club members and several local businesses. Kids 12-years-old and under are free.

Buttons are available in Ishpeming: Greater Ishpeming Neguanee Chamber  of Commerce, Wilderness Sports, U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame, Elaine’s Place, Jasper Ridge Brewery, Jubilee Foods, Congress Pizza, Bucks Restaurant, Lofaro’s Food Market; Negaunee: Super One Foods; Marquette: Down Wind Sports, Sports Rack; at Range Bank Branches in Marquette and Negaunee; or from Ishpeming Ski Club members.

Spectators can keep warm by the bon fire as international and U.S. ski jumpers compete in the U.S. Cup Ski Jumping Series. After the jumping concludes spectators will be treated to a fireworks show to celebrate this historic event.

Main Street, Ishpeming Enter your business/organization into the parade (call GINCC for details, 486-1111) or come as a spectator and help us honor the
athletes and the longest running tournament in the United States!
After the parade be sure to join us for the dinner at the Elk’s!

Community Spaghetti Dinner, February 7, 6:00-8:00pm
Elk’s Lodge, Lakeshore Drive, Ishpeming Meet the skiers, enjoy a great meal, and meet the ski jumpers!  Tickets at the door: $7, adults. $5, kids 6-12. Free, 5 and under

NMU Extended Financial Aide Hours in February

Monday, January 30th, 2012

Marquette, MI – Northern Michigan University’s financial aid office will remain open later on Wednesday evenings in February to assist area high school students and their families in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

The FAFSA should be filed by March 1 for maximum aid consideration and to ensure that a student’s aid is finalized before fall 2012 tuition is due.

The NMU financial aid office will hold extended hours from 5-7 p.m. on the following dates: Feb. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. It is located in 2107 C.B. Hedgcock. For more information, contact fao@nmu.edu or 906-227-2327. Families are also invited to schedule an appointment.

Educational Savings Fund to Benefit Infant Survivor

Ali Stark, installer at McCabe’s Quality Flooring, age 26, died December 29, 2011 due to injuries brought on by an automobile accident on Glass’s Curve on M-553 in Sands Township.

Ali was an extremely hard worker and an over all remarkable individual. He excelled in both academics and music. He was a devoted husband and an extremely loving father. His wife, Tricia, and six month old daughter, River, were his world and he did everything in his power to protect them.

In order to insure his daughter’s future, an educational savings fund is being created in her name. This will help support the family during this difficult time. Checks can be made out to Edward Jones and dropped off or mailed to McCabe’s Flooring in Genesee Street in Marquette. You can also contact Doug Gordan at Edward Jones office.

“We at McCabe’s feel that is important to secure River’s future in any way possible. This Educational savings fund will be a huge assistance to River and her family.” said Bill McCabe Jr.
