Tyler Young and Bob Nadaeu have the call.

Manistique, MI – January 19th, 2018 – The Ishpeming Girls High School Basketball Sports team took on the Manistique Emeralds tonight dominating the game with a final score of 57-26.

The Ishpeming Hematites girls took the court this evening in Manistique to take on the Manistique Emeralds who have not won a single game in the season so far, they went in facing the Hematites who have a record of 9-1 but showed they still have a lot of heart and dedication to fight.

Ishpeming won the tip-off and made the first score of the game pushing their lead, and it foreshadowed the remainder of the game as the lead would only continue to gain throughout the first frame. Madigan Johns was fouled at the buzzer ending the first quarter and put in two successful free throws ending the first frame with a score of 12-5 Hematites.

The Manistique Emeralds started the second frame not dealing with the Hematites pressure very well on their own back court and lost a lot of ground throughout the quarter. The Hematites pressed their lead to finish out the first half with a score of 29-11. Madigan Johns lead the team score with 7, followed by Mariah Austin with 6.

The story for the Manistique Emeralds was not that of a fairy tale in the second half, instead it played out much like a drama where they fought against the Hematites for every inch of the court and each score was hard fought against the Hematites pressure who would not allow Manistique to gain confidence and momentum. Ishpeming forced a significant number of turnovers, 28 to be exact, and defeated the emeralds with a large margin with a final game score of 57-26.

The Ishpeming Girls came into the game off of an exam week and really had to create a lot of energy and move the ball, which they did extremely well. Mariah Bertucci lead the team score with 14 points, followed by Madigan Johns and Madison Pruett each with 9, and Mariah Austin and Katie Loman each had 8 also.
