AJ and Bob have the call

Calumet, MI – January 2nd, 2018 – The Ishpeming Hematites girls traveled to Calumet this evening to take on the Calumet Copper Kings on their home turf and claiming victory with a final score of 50-35.

The Ishpeming Hematites took court against the Calumet Copper Kings this evening coming off a long holiday break after losing their seasons undefeated streak to the Negaunee Miners on December 20th. The girls had a lot to prove coming into the game to show their loss to Negaunee was a simple fluke, and they did not disappoint with a well played game on the eve of another large snowfall in the area.

The Hematites starters were a strong lineup, with Mariah Austin, Katie Loman, Madigan Johns, Madison Pruett, and Chloe Sjoholm. The girls were facing a team with quick guards to rival their own skill, with the key idea of not leaving them alone at the 3 point line in which played a major role of their loss vs Negaunee who put up 10 3-pointers in the game. The first score of the game went to Mariah Austin, and the Hematites took a lead over the Copper Kings, however their defense was lacking as they had the ball picked 5 times in 5 minutes, but maintained a lead to finish out the first frame 14-8 Hematites.
