Big Bay De Noc Girls Open Season With Loss To Carney 43-35

Cooks, MI – 11/29/17 – The Big Bay De Noc Girls Basketball Team opened up their 2017-18 season last night as the reigning District Champions. The Black Bears welcomed in the Carney-Nedeau Wolves for the opening of the season, a team last year that was defeated twice by Big Bay.

The game got off to a slow start with the score 4-4 after one quarter of play, but that would be the only low scoring quarter of the game. Carney guard Sara Sivula took over the game both on offense and defense coming up with 23 points en route to a 43-35 victory on Tuesday night. The Black Bears were led on the night by Senior guard Maddie McPhee who added 8 points followed by Junior forward Holli Stapleton who also added 8 points.

Senior forward Brooke Dalgord who has recently committed to Bay College had 6 points on the night in her first game back after suffering a season-ending injury last year. The Black Bears will return to action this coming Friday when they welcome in the Superior Central Cougars who will also make their season debut.
