Ishpeming Hematites boys basketball team loses tough game to Negaunee Miners 78-33
Ishpeming, MI- January 11, 2017- It was a tough night for the Ishpeming Hematites boys basketball team as they fell to the Negaunee Miners. The Hematites actually played pretty well but the Miners were simply too much tonight.
The first quarter was an entertaining one as both teams shot well from the field. Dondre Yohe was especially good in the first, scoring 6 points. The Miners as a team though shot over 65% in the first and would take the lead heading into the second quarter, 19-13.
The second quarter was nearly the same as the first. Ishpeming would shoot well as a team and Yohe continued a great first half. But the Miners would continue their hotter shooting, filling the basket at a 68% clip. Negaunee leads at the half 41-23.
The second half is really where Negaunee would separate themselves from the Hematites. They would outscore Ishpeming 18-4 in the third quarter as they would continue to shoot well and have their defense step up. Negaunee heading into the fourth would lead 59-27.
Not much would change in fourth, the Hematites simply could not get a rally going as the Miners continued their great game. Ishpeming would get outscored 19-6 in the fourth. Although the final score may lead you to think this was a blowout, it just never seemed like the Hematites ever gave in. They continued to fight to the final horn, and credit goes to the team and coaching staff for that. The final score was Negaunee 78-33.
