Ishpeming Hematites Boys Basketball Team Escapes The Houghton Gremlins With A Win 49-42

Houghton, MI- January 31st, 2017- The way this game started you would have thought the Ishpeming Hematites were going to run away with this one. But the Houghton Gremlins were not going to let that happen, after the Hematites scored the first ten points of the game, Houghton would outscore Ishpeming 22-7 the rest of the first half.

The first quarter was a tale of two scoring runs as the Hematites came out on fire starting the game on a 10-0. But then they couldn’t have been more ice cold as the Gremlins raddled of 11 straight points to end the corner. Houghton leads after one 11-10.

It looked like Ishpeming would reclaim the lead to start the second quarter as Jaden Tucker would score the first two baskets but the Hematites would struggle to get anything going after that. They would get outscored 12-3 the rest of the way. The Gremlins lead at the half 22-17.

The Hematites would put it all together in the third quarter as they would outscore the Gremlins 17-8 in the quarter. It was a great quarter from beyond the arch as Ishpeming would sink three shots from beyond the three point line. The Hematites would retake the lead 34-30 heading into the final quarter.

It was a great finish for Ishpeming as they would get a little more separation heading down to the final horn. It was a solid team effort to get away with a win tonight. Hart Holmgren had a big fourth quarter to finish a great night by him as he would have 11 points in the final quarter. The Hematites would get out of Houghton with a 49-42 victory.
