Ishpeming Hematites District Playoffs Boys Basketball (47) VS Westwood Patriots (51) on 98.3 WRUP and WRUP.com 03/10/2016
West Ishpeming, Michigan – March 10th, 2016 – Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau were in West Ishpeming, MI for the Ishpeming Hematites boys game against the Westwood Patriots for the final game of the District Playoffs on 98.3 WRUP and streaming live at WRUP.com. The Hematites looked to keep their season going strong, and Mike and Bob brought you their stats and predictions during the Honor Credit Union pregame show!
It was sure to be a great game for the district championships as the Ishpeming Hematites as they faced the Westwood Patriots. The Hematites lost the opening tip off, and the Patriots jumped out to an early lead by three points. Ishpeming got their first lead of the game just before the halfway point of the quarter, but Westwood kept up with the Hematites. It was a low scoring quarter, and by the time the buzzer rang, Ishpeming led by only one point with a score of 11-10 on 98.3 WRUP.
Despite the back and forth action of the first quarter, the Ishpeming Hematites had a great start to the second quarter when their went on a 7-0 scoring run. Another swing in momentum took place, and the Patriots tied the game at 20 four minutes into the quarter, after going on a 6-0 scoring run of their own. The referees were keeping a close eye on the game, and both teams were having some trouble with traveling and foul calls. Just tenths of a second before the end of the quarter, Evan Gravadoni was fouled, but Ishpeming was unable to even the score.

Westwood got the ball to start the second half of play against the Ishpeming Hematites, and they were able to extend their lead by two. The Hematites did their best to adjust to the Westwood offense, and in the first half, only three Patriots’ players had scored. Just before the halfway point of the third quarter, the score was tied back up at 31-31, and Ishpeming was determined not to let Westwood make another comeback. With just under a minute left in the third quarter, Ishpeming’s lead was only a single point, and at the sound of the buzzer, the Hematites led with a score of 37-36 on 98.3 WRUP.
The Ishpeming Hematites started off the final quarter against the Westwood Patriots with the ball and a one point lead. It remained an incredibly close game as the time ticked off the scoreboard, and it became apparent that everything would come down to the final minutes of the game. With just over three minutes remaining, the score was all tied up at 45-45, but Westwood took the lead with a quick jump shot. There was only one minute left in the game, and Westwood maintained their two point lead over the Hematites as Ishpeming used the last of their timeouts. A technical foul on Ishpeming at the very end of the game ended Ishpeming’s hopes, and Westwood took home the win.
