Ishpeming Hematites Boys Basketball (47) VS Negaunee Miners (53) on 98.3 WRUP and 02/12/2016

Ishpeming, Michigan – February 12th, 2016 – Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau were in Ishpeming, MI for the Ishpeming Hematites boys game against the Negaunee Miners on 98.3 WRUP and streaming live at The Hematites looked to keep their season going strong, and Mike and Bob brought you their stats and predictions during the Honor Credit Union pregame show!

The game between the Ishpeming Hematites and the Negaunee Miners started off with a bang, and the action was fast and furious. Ishpeming knew this would be a tough game, with the Miners being undefeated and ranked number one in the conference. Hart Holmgren scored the first points of the game on a quick jump shot, and Ishpeming led by two midway through the first quarter. Negaunee’s defense managed to have a big impact on the second half of the first quarter, and that allowed them to take the lead 6-10 with 1:30 remaining. At the end of the first quarter, the Miners led 8-14 on 98.3 WRUP.

Even though the Negaunee Miners led by six points at the end of the first quarter, the Ishpeming Hematites kept the gap between the two teams even throughout the first minutes of the second quarter. The Hematites were working incredibly well as a team, and it was apparent how big of a game this would be. Thomas Finegan was having a good game, and his leadership on offense allowed the Hematites to stay close as the half began to wind down.

The Hematites had some foul trouble early in the second half, when Ozzy Corp got his fourth foul, putting him in danger of fouling out. Midway through the quarter, the foul trouble continued for Ishpeming, with Hart Holmgren earning his third foul. It remained a very close game, and the excitement in the stands was palpable. As the final minute in the quarter ticked down, the Hematites were trailing by ten points. By the time the buzzer sounding the end of the third quarter rang, the Hematites trailed 29-38.

Even though the Ishpeming Hematites‘ Ozzy Corp was in foul trouble, he started off the final quarter by nailing a long three point shot. The Negaunee Miners were taking full advantage of the Hematites’ foul trouble, and it allowed them to hold the lead for the first half of the quarter. Nick Comment made a great jump shot, weaving between two Negaunee players, and that brought Ishpeming back to within five points. As the clock ticked down, Ishpeming maintained their deficit of only five points, and Negaunee sensed that they were in danger of losing their first game of the season. However, by the time the buzzer sounded, the Ishpeming Hematites fell to the tough Negaunee Miners.
