Ishpeming Hematites Girls Basketball (61) VS L’Anse Purple Hornets (40) on 98.3 WRUP and 01/18/2016

L’Anse, Michigan – January 18th, 2016 – Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau were in L’Anse, MI for the Ishpeming Hematites game against the L’Anse Purple Hornets on 98.3 WRUP and The Hematites looked to keep their season going strong, and Mike and Bob brought you their stats and predictions during the Honor Credit Union pregame show!

The game started off with a bang, when the Ishpeming Hematites quickly took control on the opening tip-off, and they were able to put the first two points of the game on the scoreboard. Mariah Austin had an excellent first quarter for the Hematites, doing very well on both offense and defense. Despite some great play from Ishpeming, the L’Anse Purple Hornets were able to work their way to an early lead, but the Hematites tied it up with just over a minute left to play. The quarter ended with Ishpeming in the lead 15-10 on 98.3 WRUP and!

The L’Anse Purple Hornets inbounded the ball to start the second quarter, Hematite_Girls_VS_LAnse_Purple_Hornets_05and Madigan Johns of the Ishpeming Hematites had a great start to the game, reaching double-digit points in the first minute of the second quarter. The first half of the game remained mostly foul-free, but the veteran referee staff called a very fair game. The Hematites went on a nine point scoring run at the end of the first quarter and the start of the second quarter, but L’Anse was eventually able to put an end to that streak. As the quarter began to wind to a close, the Hematites continued to pull away and put more distance between themselves and the Purple Hornets.

Hematite_Girls_VS_LAnse_Purple_Hornets_04The Ishpeming Hematites continued to play a great game against the L’Anse Purple Hornets, when they secured the opening tip-off of the second quarter and quickly add two more points to their score. The L’Anse Purple Hornets continuted to have problems handling Ishpeming’s offense, and Ishpeming had no plans of letting up. Khora Swanson had several great plays on defense for the Hematites, and she was one of the reasons for Ishpeming’s success. Every single member of the Hematites played extremely well throughout the game, however, Mariah Austin had to leave the game due to illness, which was a big hit to the Hematites. The third quarter ended with a score of 44-22, with the Hematites in firm control on 98.3 WRUP!

As the final quarter of the game began, the Ishpeming Hematites continued to extend their lead over the L’Anse Purple Hornets. Khora Swanson added to Ishpeming’s score when she drained a long three point shot from the corner less than a minute into the quarter. It continued to be a very clean game, and neither team lost a player to fouling-out. Both teams began to wear down as the game ticked to a close, but the Hematites kept their strong offense going. Jessica Penhale also played a great game for Ishpeming, and she threaded her way through multiple defenders and made a nice lay-up just before the end of the game.
