Ishpeming Hematites Girls Basketball (38) VS Iron Mountain Mountaineers (42) on 98.3 WRUP and 01/14/2016

Ishpeming, Michigan – January 14th, 2016 – Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau were in Ishpeming, MI for the Ishpeming Hematites game against the Iron Mountain Mountaineers on 98.3 WRUP and The Hematites looked to keep their season going strong, and Mike and Bob brought you their stats and predictions during the Honor Credit Union pregame show!

The Ishpeming Hematites lost the opening tip-off to start their game against the Iron Mountain Mountaineers, and Iron Mountain drained a quick jump shot to put the first two points of the game on the scoreboard. The Mountaineers’ no-press zone defense seemed to fluster the Hematites, who had trouble putting points on the board in the first quarter. Iron Mountain also had a size advantage against Ishpeming, and that forced the Hematites to take less than ideal shooting chances. Mariah Austin tied the game up when she drained a long three point with a minute left in the first. At the end of the first, the score was 12-10 on 98.3 WRUP and streaming live at!

Hematite_Girls_VS_Iron_Mountain_Mountaineers_01Marissa Minot started off the second quarter for the Ishpeming Hematites in an excellent way when she got a hand on a pass from the Iron Mountain Mountaineers and gave control of the ball to Ishpeming. Fouls appeared to be a problem for the Mountaineers early in the second quarter, but the game remained close through much of the second quarter. Before the end of the first half of play, the Hematites had worked their way to a sizable lead over Iron Mountain.

Iron Mountain Mountaineers: 16

The Ishpeming Hematites continued their strong play when they opened the second half by taking the opening tip off and scoring two quick points.  The Iron Mountain Mountaineers attempted to make a comeback when they scored six straight points, only to have Ishpeming answer with a scoring run of their own to make the score 31-23 with two and a half minutes left in the third quarter. By the end of the third quarter, the Mountaineers had worked their way back to within three points thanks to a last-second three pointer for Iron Mountain.

Hematite_Girls_VS_Iron_Mountain_Mountaineers_04It was a tense game as the first quarter started, and the Ishpeming Hematites found themselves in a true dog fight with the tough Iron Mountain Mountaineers. Two minutes into the fourth quarter, the Hematites had lost their lead and trailed by three points. The fervor in the gym increased as the game clock wound down, and the fans’ cheers filled the gym as both teams traded the lead back and forth. With just minutes left in the game, the score was all tied up at 36-36. Both teams had players in foul trouble, and as the score remained close, Ishpeming had to be careful not to give any free points away. With under a minute left in the game, Iron Mountain found themselves in the lead by a slim margin, but the Hematites did everything in their power to retake the lead.
