Ishpeming Hematites Boys Basketball (62) VS L’Anse Purple Hornets (19) on 98.3 WRUP and WRUP.com 01/08/2016
L’Anse, Michigan – January 8th, 2016 – Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau were in L’Anse, MI for the Ishpeming Hematities boys game against the L’Anse Purple Hornets on 98.3 WRUP and streaming live at WRUP.com. The Hematites looked to keep their season going strong, and Mike and Bob brought you their stats and predictions during the Honor Credit Union pregame show!
The Ishpeming Hematites took the opening tip-off, but they were unable to put any points on the board during their first possession. Ishpeming was able to break out to an early 4-0 lead over the L’Anse Purple Hornets, and their great defense kept L’Anse in check. With two and a half minutes left to play in the first, the Hematites had extended their lead to 8-2, and they looked to keep their success going. Before the first quarter ended, the Hematites went on a 10 point scoring run to make it 18-2 at the end of the first on 98.3 WRUP!
Jaren Kipling in-bounded the ball for the Ishpeming Hematites to start the second quarter, and they were able to extend their scoring run from the first quarter on their very first possession. With four minutes left in the first half of play, the Purple Hornets had tripled their first quarter score, but they still had a lot of trouble dealing with the dominant Hematites. With under a minute left to play in the first half, Ishpeming continued to play some very impressive basketball, and they were able to extend their lead even further before buzzer sounded.

It continued to be the Ishpeming Hematite’s game, as they led the L’Anse Purple Hornets convincingly after the first half of play. Hart Holmgren played an important part in Ishpeming’s success, with several rebounds and multiple baskets. Thomas Finegan also helped the Hematites domination, thanks to some great steals and defensive play. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 47-13 on 98.3 WRUP!
The ball was again in-bounded by the Ishpeming Hematites to start the final quarter, but the L’Anse Purple Hornets found some life and woke up on defense. Despite some great defensive plays early in the quarter, L’Anse still found themselves falling further and further behind the Hematites. Mitch Uhl had a excellent fourth quarter, playing great on both defense and offense for Ishpeming. Matt Maki drained a three-pointer off a nice feed from Mitch Uhl, and that put the Hematites over the 60-point mark.
