Hematites Prepare for Copper Kings

The Ishpeming Hematites defeat the Gwinn ModelTowners 46-20 on Real Classic Rock 98.3 WRUP and WRUP.com

ISHPEMING, MI – The title defense is on in Ishpeming.  The Hematites have looked rock solid once again, outscoring opponents 80-12 in the first two games.  Quarterback Ozzy Corp has replaced the departed Alex Briones to great success, and the defense continues to only give up points once the game has already been decided.  This week they’ll host the Calumet Copper Kings, who will make the long drive down 41 to try and end the Hematites long winning streak.

If the Hematites are going to come out on top in this one, each player will have to know his assignment.  The Copper Kings, coming off of a loss at home against the Miners, use a lot of deception in the run game.  When you think the fullback is coming at you, the quarterback has the ball.  When it’s clearly going to be an option play, the receivers are busy getting behind the secondary waiting to make a big play.  Quarterback Tyler Loukus is able to make plays with his legs and arm, as shown during a 40-yard bomb he threw in the second quarter of last week’s contest.  They also have some good running backs in junior Rober Erkkila & senior Kaden Kangas who were the primary ball carriers for coach John Croze’s offense.

The Hematites play at home tomorrow night against these Copper Kings in a non-conference U.P. football battle!  Join Mike Plourde & Bob Nadeau as they bring you the call, starting with a 6:30 pregame with a 7pm kickoff right here on 98.3WRUP!  Go Hematites!
