GREEN BAY, WI –  Four days after signing standout wide receiver Jordy Nelson, the Green Bay Packers have extended GM Ted Thompson to a multi-year extension.  The team made the announcement after practice on Wednesday, and more details are to follow.

Thompson also signed a multi-year extension back in 2011, so we can expect him to be around at least through the 2016 season.   Since becoming the Head of Football Operations in 2005, Thompson has led the Packers to success more often than not.  Let’s take a look at the key statistics of a successful organization brought to you by Honor Credit Union & Tadych’s Econo Foods:

  • 93-62 record (.600)
  • 6 playoff appearances – 2007, 2009-2013
  • 4 NFC North Titles – 2007, 2011-2013
  • 1 Super Bowl Championship – 2010 (XLV)

Thompson also had to manage one of the most difficult choices in the organizations history:  The Brett Favre saga’s end.

Thompson, who turned 61 in January, still appears to have a couple more years ahead of him as the main decision maker for the Packers.  As per their twitter account, the Packers & Thompson are very excited to keep their relationship together for another few years at least.

Thompson: It’s easy to say I’m going to ride off into the sunset, but I have people that I’m responsible for here. People I’ve hired.

Thompson: I feel great. I’m honored that Mark Murphy & the organization would like me to stay on. This place means a lot to me.

New season, same legendary stadium for the Packers on 98.3 WRUP!

Going into a season full of questions, it’s nice to see the Packers locking up the top people and players within their organization.  Signing Jordy Nelson, Sam Shields, and B.J. Raji keeps a lot of the championship material in a Green uniform for at least a few more seasons.   The Packers are clearly a team that can contend for a title this season.  For that to come to fruition, however, they’ll have a tough go at it.  They play in the tougher conference, they have a very talented division against them, and they’ll eventually have to overcome their arch-nemesis in Colin Kaepernick & the 49ers.
