Marquette Board of Light and Power Reports Phone Scam

Marquette, Michigan  –  June 25, 2014  –  The Marquette Board of Light and Power reported they are aware of a phone scam targeted at their customers.

According to the MBLP, several of their commercial customers have been contacted by telephone and told their electric power service would be disconnected within 45 minutes to one hour unless they provided immediate payment by providing financial or credit card information.

The MBLP reminds customers to not give out any financial or credit card information over the phone. These calls are not coming from the MBLP. Utility staff have notified the Marquette Police Department of the phone scam. If you do receive a phone call from someone threatening disconnection of your electric service from the MBLP, write down the phone number, hang up and call the MBLP at 228-0311.
