The Ishpeming Hematite Boys Basketball (73) VS The Lanse Purple Hornets (66) on 98.3 WRUP
1/3/14 Lanse MI– Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau were deep in “The Hornets Nest” in Lanse tonight to bring you all the exciting, intense and suspenseful action on 98.3 WRUP as the Ishpeming Hematite Boys took on the Lanse Purple Hornets during this cold wintery evening.
The game started with Ishpeming winning the jump ball and utilizing strong passing. However Lanse was fouled shortly after and went to the free throw line scoring both free throws putting points on the board making the score 2-0 Lanse. Ishpeming put up a bucket shortly after that, which tied the score at 2-2. Ishpeming then started to charge the Purple Hornets. Both teams used strong passing technique but the Hematites scored again making the score 4-2 (Ishpeming). Both teams continued to battle back and forth challenging each other immensely. The Purple Hornets picked up the pace scoring again making it a tied game at 4-4. Lanse then scored a three pointer increasing the score to 7-4 (Purple Hornets). Ishpeming quickly rebounded the ball and inserted a three pointer into their basket changing the score to 7-6, Purple Hornets lead. The Hematites were fouled on the shot getting to go to the free throw line and making the basket, tying the score again at 7-7. Lanse quickly brought the ball back down court with Ishpeming boxing them out intensely. Ishpeming recovered a Lanse three point attempt and returned it to them with a three pointer of their own, score 10-7 the Hematites leading. The Purple Hornets were up to the challenge of the Ishpeming defense and scored a three pointer of their own tying the score at 10-10. The game was so fast paced and exciting, the suspense thickened. The score quickly became 12-10 with Lanse taking the lead after another bucket. With intense passing and ball moving Ishpeming powered their way to the basket, but was unable to score. With three minutes left of the quarter Ishpeming attempted another three point shot but was unable to score. The Hematites called a time out and both teams regrouped. The score increased to 14-10 with Lanse in the lead after another Lanse basket. Lanse quickly scored again making the 16-10 (Lanse). Ishpeming returned with some points of their own bringing the score up to 16-12 (Lanse). Both teams brought on the heat at the end of the first quarter, each making buckets of their own. The quarter ended with a score of 23-14, Lanse in the lead.
The second quarter started off with Lanse scoring after a few nice moves to the basket, the score 25-14 (Lanse). Ishpeming threw up a nice a screen play and stole a pass ball from Lanse and quickly brought it down court. Ishpeming was then tripled teamed by the Purple Hornets and missed the bucket letting Lanse recover the ball. Ishpeming scored but then Lanse scored making the score 27-16 with Lanse in the lead. Both teams continued to apply a fast pace to their game. The score quickly became 30 to 20 (Lanse) after both teams scored some baskets. With the clock moving fast the Hematites brought the ball up the court, and were fouled and went to the free throw line. The Hemtites were able to make the first shot but missed the second. Ishpeming made an excellent shot block on the Purple Hornets and the ball went out of bounds. Ishpeming made an awesome three point bucket making the score 30-24 (Lanse). With just about 2 minutes left of the half, many shots were attempted and shots were made. The Purple Hornets posted a three pointer to the board turning the score to 33-24 keeping the lead. With the Purple Hornets moving the ball quickly the Hematites snuck in and made a great steal. Ishpeming threw up various shot attempts but missed, however were fouled and got a chance at some free throws. The Hematites made both free throws making the score 33-26 (Lanse). With one minute left Ishpeming attempted a three pointer, missed but recovered the rebound. Another Hematite three point attempt was made, but was no good. The half ended with a score of 35-28, with Lanse in the lead.
Lanse got the ball to start the second half/third quarter and scored, 37-28 (Lanse). Ishpeming was able to score after a great team set up increasing the score to 37-30 (Lanse). The Purple Hornets attempted a three point shot, missed with Ishpeming rebounding and scoring and getting fouled, 37-32 (Lanse) The Hematites unfortunately missed both free throws, and Lanse recovered the ball. Making fast passes the Purple Hornets brought it down court. To much surprise the half continued its fast pace that was started in the first quarter. Lanse was able score a three point bucket increasing their lead to 40-32. Ishpeming had a chance at the free throw line for two with the first shot missed and the second shot made. The score was now 40-33 with The Purple Hornets in the lead. However, Ishpeming quickly moved the ball up court and scored a three pointer, the score was now 40-36 (Lanse). each team continued to battle back and forth and were able to score buckets again raising the score 43-38 with the Purple Hornets still in the lead. The Hematites were stubborn though and continued to attempt to close the lead. With just under 5 minutes left of the quarter, Ishpeming was fouled during a three point attempt. They got to take three free throws at the line and made all of their free shots, making the score 43-41. Lanse was quick to return the baskets and score a few of their own. Ishpeming was fouled in the process, in the end the score became 46-43 with the Purple Hornets maintaining the lead. Ishpeming scored a great three point shot right off the square closing the lead even more and increasing the suspense, the score 46-45 (Lanse). Both teams continued to put on a tough defense, with under 2 miuntes left of the quarter. Ishpeming was able to take the lead at 47-46. However Lanse scored shortly after and regained the lead at 48-47. The suspense could be cut with a steak knife. The quarter ended with a score of 51-50 with the Purple Hornets maintaining a one point lead.
The last quarter started with a Lanse score (53-50) and then Ishpeming quickly scoring another three pointer tying the score 53-53. The Hematities were able to take the lead after another bucket and leaving score at 55-53. Ishpeming continued their streak scoring again, 57-53 (Hematites). Suspense and determination was in the air between both teams. The Hematites were able to get a double bonus after a foul, both shots were missed. Lanse in return got to take a one-and-one, at the line. They missed the shot and the Hematites fielded the rebound. The score was up to 57-55 after a Lanse basket. The fourth quarter excitement continued with valid suspense. With two minutes left of the game and the score quickly became 61-57 with Ishpeming leading after each team scoring. The Hematites moved to the free throw line for a double bonus only scoring one making it 62-57 (Ishpeming). Ishpeming scored another bucket, 64-57 and put two free throws on the board changing the score to 66-57 (Ishpming). Lanse however made two free throws but Ishpeming retaliated with another basket making the score 68-59, the Hematites lead. Lanse continued to toss up the buckets, 68-61 (Ishpeming) . With under a minute left of the game Ishpeming made a free throw, keeping their lead at 69-61. The suspense continued to grow with Lanse making a three pointer closing the lead to 69-64 (Hematites). 70-64 was the score after an Ishpeming free throw. The Purple Hornets attempted a three pointer, missed which pushed the ball out of bounds. Ishpeming had procession of the ball with just about 25 seconds left. The Hematites went to the free throw line again, making the first shot but missing the second. Ishpeming quickly returned to the free throw line yet again, making their first shot and missing their second shot. Lanse was able to score a quick lay up but fouled the Hematites again. The Hematites again returned to the free throw line, making their first shot and missing their second shot. The game ended with great effort made by both teams, the final score 73-66, Hemaitites WIN!!
