Ishpeming Michigan 10/11/13 – It was an exciting night for Hematite Friday Night Football as the Ishpeming Hematites took on the Negaunee Miners at the playgrounds in Ishpeming in front of about 2,100 fans.  Both teams went in to the game undefeated, however the Ishpeming Hematites came out on top.  Ishpeming and Negaunee started the game with their previous season games ending in a running clock game consistently.  The suspense  was amazing and nail biting keeping the fans at the edge of their seats in expectation.  This was by far one of the best and biggest games in the state of Michigan and Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau were there bringing you the action live on 98.3 WRUP

Atmosphere and attitude was at the playgrounds tonight hand in hand with excitement in both the players and fans as the game started off with Ishpeming winning the coin toss.  Ishpeming initated the game by kicking it off for a touch back as the Miners began the game on their 10 yard line.  The Miners pushed their way down the field with tough determination after the kick off,  but the Hematites continued to hold the Miners with a battling defense leaving Negaunee to punt it to Ishpeming.  The Hematites utilized the Power I and Wildcat formations amongst other offensive plays against the Miners with attempts to score a touch down, but the Miners battled back with tight defense.  The first quarter continued with equal determination and skill, both battling for a touch down.  The Hematites were able to score a touch down with one minute left of play in the first.  The quarter ended with Hematites 6 and the Miners 0.

The second quarter continued to have an evenly skilled battle between the Hematites and Miners.  The Miners brought the ball down to their goal line at the beginning of the quarter and made a touch down to even the score making it Hematites 6 and Miners 6.  Ishpeming pushed forward with offensive determination after the Miner touch down gaining about 3-4 yards per play.  However the Miners held their own defensively, bringing a challenge to the Hematites offense.  The Hematites were able to top the challenge and make a touch down making the score Hematites 14 and the Miners 6 at the end of the half after the Ishpeming two point conversion.

There was determination and suspense in the  atmosphere to start the second half.  Each team battled throughout the first half with equal skill and competition.  Ishpeming started the third quarter with the ball in their hands after the Miners attempted an on-side kick.  The Hematites continued with strong offense as they were determined to score a touch down.  The Miners were stubborn and prevented an Ishpeming touch down utilizing a tough defense keeping the Hematites at only 3-5 yards per play.  The Miners were able to make a defensive stop on the Hematites offensive drive and gained the ball after the Ishpeming 4th down.  Ishpeming came back with a tough defense bringing Negaunee to 4 downs and then getting the ball back after the Negaunee punt.  The Hematities continued with small yardage gains down the field offensively against the Miner defense.  Both teams continued to battle offensively and defensively back and forth throughout the quarter but the Hematites were able to score another touch down making the score 22 to 6 after the 2 point conversion with a little over 2 minutes left of play of the third quarter.  Suspense and determination continued however as the Negaunee Miners were able to come back with-in seconds after the Ishpeming touch down with a touch down of their own making the score 22 to 12, Hematites to end the quarter.

In the first two minutes of fourth quarter play the Hematites brought the ball to the goal line instantly with a 40 yard run right off the bat.  Ishpeming scored a touch down making the score 28 to 12, Hematites.  The Miners continued to battle with determination against the Hematite defense using the Wishbone offensive style of play and scoring a touch down making the score 28 to 18.  The equality in skill and determination in both teams continued throughout the quarter, with the game atmosphere full of excitement and suspense.  Both teams became antsy in the last three minutes of play, with multiple flags being thrown for various penalties.  Ishpeming started to watch the clock carefully and took their time with the ball coming close to the goal line in the last 2 minutes of the game.  However, the Miners continued with a tough defense to stop the Hematite  drive.  Negaunee was able to  score a touchdown in the last second of the game making the score 28 to 24. The battle was tough and the competition was a challenge but the Hematites defeated the Miners with a score of the Ishpeming Hematites 28 to the Negaunee Miners 24.
