Help the Ishpeming Hematites Go to NYC

The winning continues for the Ishpeming Hematites!

The Ishpeming High School has officially won Sports Illustrated’s Underdogs competition. 19-year-old Eric Dompierre received the most online votes in the competition, so Ishpeming‘s athletic department will receive a grant of $25,000.

Also, ten members of Eric’s team will attend the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year Awards in New York City.

Ten athletes and schools from around the country were profiled in the online contest. To watch Eric’s story click the link below!

Now, the Ishpeming Hematites need your help to send the entire football team to New York City to attend the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year reception. Eric and his dad could not choose just 10 players.

Eric’s father, Dean Dompierre, contacted SI and asked if they would consider putting the money they would have used for airfare to be spent on a bus so the entire team could go to New York with coach Olson. Sports Illustrated said yes.

Unfortunately, the cost of the additional hotel rooms for two nights leaves the team $3,200 short. If you would like to donate, make your check payable to Ishpeming Public Schools. Indicate what it’s for in the memo portion of the check.

Checks can be sent to Ishpeming Public Schools, 319 East Division Street. Checks can also be dropped off at the superintendent’s office.

The team leaves for New York Monday, December 3.

Congratulations to all the Ishpeming Hematites!!
