The Ishpeming Hematites tonight hosted the Houghton Gremlins hoping for another win and did so in convincing fashion, winning 59-50.

The game started even between the two teams, with a score of 8-8 at the end of the first and a five point lead for the Hematites at the end of the half.  From there though the Hematites were able to extend a lead that reached up to thirteen points at one point to keep the Gremlins from ever getting within striking distance.

Next up for the Ishpeming Hematites is the boys taking on the Iron Mountain Mountaineers on Friday, February 3rd in Iron Mountain. Pregame will be 7:30PM and tip off will be at 8PM right here on WRUP 98.3FM.

Mild Monday Night in Iron Mountain as the  Mountaineers defeat our Hematites  50-32

Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau brought you exciting High School Girls Basketball from the Iron Mountain High School.

At the end of the first quarter the lady Mountaineers lead the Hematites 22-3.  At the half the Ishpeming Hematites trailed by 14, score Mountaineers 27, Hematites 13.  Then, at the end of the third quarter the Mountaineer ladies widen their lead over the Ishpeming Hematites the quarter wrapping up 40-23.

Marquette, MI – Northern Michigan University’s financial aid office will remain open later on Wednesday evenings in February to assist area high school students and their families in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

The FAFSA should be filed by March 1 for maximum aid consideration and to ensure that a student’s aid is finalized before fall 2012 tuition is due.

The NMU financial aid office will hold extended hours from 5-7 p.m. on the following dates: Feb. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. It is located in 2107 C.B. Hedgcock. For more information, contact fao@nmu.edu or 906-227-2327. Families are also invited to schedule an appointment.

Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau brought you exciting High School Girls Basketball from the Westwood High School.

At the end of the first quarter your Ishpeming Hematites lead the Westwood Patriots 8-3. At halftime, the Westwood Patriots manage to lead the Ishpeming Hematites 22-10. Then, at the end of the third quarter the Westwood Patriot ladies widen their lead over the Ishpeming Hematites 21-16.

Ali Stark, installer at McCabe’s Quality Flooring, age 26, died December 29, 2011 due to injuries brought on by an automobile accident on Glass’s Curve on M-553 in Sands Township.

Ali was an extremely hard worker and an over all remarkable individual. He excelled in both academics and music. He was a devoted husband and an extremely loving father. His wife, Tricia, and six month old daughter, River, were his world and he did everything in his power to protect them.

In order to insure his daughter’s future, an educational savings fund is being created in her name. This will help support the family during this difficult time. Checks can be made out to Edward Jones and dropped off or mailed to McCabe’s Flooring in Genesee Street in Marquette. You can also contact Doug Gordan at Edward Jones office.

“We at McCabe’s feel that is important to secure River’s future in any way possible. This Educational savings fund will be a huge assistance to River and her family.” said Bill McCabe Jr.

The boys Ishpeming Hematites tonight went to Munising to take on the very tough Mustangs.  And they were just that as they had the hot hand to lead themselves over the Hematites 60-38 tonight.
