Ishpeming Hematites (36) VS Negaunee Miners (14) 10-07-11 High School Football
Cross town rivals the Negaunee Miners came to town tonight for the last game of the season with the Hematites hoping to finish their season on a 6 game winning streak.
The Hematites were able to quickly jump out to a 16-0 lead lead with 140 yards on ground in the first quarter, led by Jacob Finegan who had 82 yards on 6 carries. By halftime the Hematites were able to add to their lead 22-0.
After a bit of a longer halftime for homecoming, Ishpeming was able to pile on some more points for a lead 28-0. The Miners then came to life to strike back for two scores, but couldn’t get the momentum back as Ishpeming was able to recover each onside kick that followed. And the Hematites were able to recover their ensuing kickoff after their 4th quarter touchdown from an accidental too low kick. Ishpeming was then able to kill the clock slowly for a 36-14 win.
The Ishpeming Hematites have the last two weeks of the regular season off due to Gwinn forfeiting the rest of their season, and will play next on either October 28th or 29th for the first week of the playoffs. It’l be carried right here on 98.3FM WRUP.
